Cheng Ho's First Voyage

The first Treasure Fleet consisted of 62 ships; four were huge wood boats, some of the largest ever built in history. They were approximately 400 feet (122 meters) long and 160 feet (50 meters) wide. The four were the flagships of the fleet of 62 ships assembled at Nanjing along the Yangtze (Chang) River. Included in the fleet were 339-foot (103-meter) long horse ships that carried nothing but horses, water ships that carried fresh water for the crew, troop transports, supply ships, and war ships for offensive and defensive needs. The ships were filled with thousands of tons of Chinese goods to trade with others during the voyage. In the fall of 1405 the fleet was ready to embark with 27,800 men.

Where Can Pirates Be Found???

1.) Somalia is a hotbed for modern day piracy, and the BBC calls the Indian Ocean waters off the coast of this African nation the "most dangerous for pirate activities in the world." One thing is for sure: they aren't smart. As recent as 2006, a group of grenade-launching pirates attacked two U.S. Navy warships 25 miles from the coast of Somalia. No sailors were injured, though three pirates were critically wounded when the U.S. Navy returned fire, and one was kindly brought aboard the warship and treated for his injuries. Pirates in the region have also made it a habit of intercepting ships carrying relief aid headed for Somalia -- taking away food and supplies meant to reach millions -- and hijacking cruise ships.

2.) The Strait of Malacca is a lucrative area for pirates, with over a quarter of the world's trade passing through this thin strip of sea between Indonesia and Malaysia. In April of 1999, the Valiant Carrier, a fuel tanker from Cyprus, was attacked by Molotov cocktail-tossing pirates who boarded the ship and stabbed most of the crew, including a 7-month-old baby. Fortunately, piracy in the Strait of Malacca has been decreasing lately due to "co-ordinated naval patrols between Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia," with reported incidents dropping 25% from 2005 to 2006

3.) Last but certainly not least, the waters surrounding Indonesia are what many call the world's most pirate-infested, "whose underpaid coast guards are suspected of sharing the spoils with modern-day Bluebeards," according to the Christian Science Monitor. The International Maritime Bureau warned that Indonesia was "by far the greatest piracy risk," with the country's waters harboring "more incidents than the next three [most dangerous] countries combined."

CHILD ABUSE!!!

She treated David badly at home. She made him swallow detergents and ammonium solutions, causing sores and burns on his tongue. She slapped him on the face and kicked him down the stairs. If he fainted due to the impact landing on his head, The Mother would wait for him to get up before kicking him on the sides. She tried to burn him while placing his hand on a stove and made him sleep in rags at the garage even if its winter. She would torture him every morning she woke up if she found that he havent done the housework; broomsweeping. Literally, David is like a slave. And it was a very traumatic childhood.

Due to the injuries David had afflicted from the harsh treatment, he was finally rescued and put to immediate custody from the police one day. The day before the rescue, his Mother try to strangle him on the neck after kicking him down the stairs, and nearly suffocate him. It cause swollen epiglotis which blocks the breathing, and the school nurse finally reports to the police regarding severe child abuse.

An Unfortunate Event

One sunny morning, the fresh air filled my lungs and I felt refreshed and exhilarated. It was Children's Day and I was at home reading some notes to prepare for the coming Science test as my Science was quite weak. I was at home alone because my parents were working and my brother was in school.
It was eleven o'clock and my brother had just been dismissed from school. My heart pounded in excitement because I wanted him to play with me as it was Children's Day.
After waiting for so long, my brother had not reached home and I was starting to worry. Just then, the phone rang and it frightened me as it happened so suddenly. When I picked up the phone, I froze for a few seconds when I heard that a bus had hit my brother. He had dropped my Children's Day present and went back to pick it up.I felt grateful when I heard that my brother risked his life to pick up the present that he wanted to give me. The accident happened a few blocks away from my house.
I hung up the phone immediately and ran as fast as I could to find my brother without informing my parents. After running for so long, I was out of breath so I stopped.Just then, I saw a crowd not far away so I ran there to take a look.To my surprise, a boy lying on the floor. He was my brother.Tears welled up my eyes when I saw blood oozing out of my brother head.I squeezed through the crowd.I finally got out and ran to my brother and hugged him tightly.Within minutes, the police and ambulances arived at the scene to investigate what had happened. My brother was carried in a stretcher into the ambulance and I followed him to the hospital to keep him company.
When we reached the hospital, my brother was sent to the operation room and he was inside for a few hours. While I was outside the room, I went to the reception to call my parents and told them about the accident. When they heard about the news, they were shocked and immediately rushed to the hospital.
My brother finally came out of the room and he had just a few scars on his head.My eyes glittered with joy when I saw him alive as I thought he would die. After that, we saw our neighbour, uncle Tom, and asked him what he was doing in the hospital. He replied that he wanted to see if my brother was alright. He told me that he was the one who called me and we thanked him profusely.
